I have a '92 Kawasaki TS 650 with carburetor issues. Wanna rip 'er out and get a carb rebuild kit for it. Engine Serial # is JF650 AE145207. Directly from Kawasaki they told me the particular carb in this ski is a Keihin CDK34 diaphragm type (28mm venturi). However, after researching on the net, I am led to believe it is a Keihin CDK 38 Type II. What is the difference between the two rebuild kits/are they universal for this ski and what is the "mm" measurement a measure of? I want to get the correct rebuild kit, but seeing variances. Any other advice for rebuilding the carb and putting this carb rebuild kit to good use? I have seen all the online videos and downloaded step by step manuals for the Keihin CDK. Most importantly wanna know without a doubt which kit to buy... Any advice is appreciated.

The MM is the millimeters the 28 mm and the 38mm is the measurement of the throat or bottom of the carb where the butterfly opens. The difference would be for the parts supplied. Some Kawasaki came with a 28mm carb and the upgrade was a 38mm (more gas=more power, to some extend). If you got the $$$ to spend and are ok with it the best route would be to really upgrade to a Mikuni 44mm. However you will either need a new intake or they make a spacer to adopt the Mikuni to the stock intake. I have ran both carbs and believe me when I tell you Mikuni is the way to go, much easier to tune/adjust and run so much better. Hope this helps and good luck to you.

Thanks. I think I will upgrade. So this adapter space is all that is needed with the Mikuni 44 mm carb? Anything else to consider?

you will also need a breather F/A (flame arrestor) for that particular Mikuni carb. You can buy the carb used or new. pwctoday.com is a great source for this type of skis and they also have a for sale section that you can buy used or new. The adapter bolts on and then the carb just bolts directly to it. Try the link below for adapter and other parts. Note that they say to port match the spacer to the intake. That means to open the intake to match the hole/opening of the adapter. This is very easy to do. I would suggest that if you go this route to get a stock F/A from a Yamaha ski. (Yamaha came stock with Mikuni's).
