Hey, got a problem I can't seem to figure out. Last Sunday, the boat was running good. About 5500 RPM at WOT, 39-40 MPH. Ran it for about 3 miles. Parked at the sandbar for a couple of hours. Left the sandbar, opened the throttle and it had a stiff spot in the throttle lever at around 75%. I pushed it a little more but the motor would only turn up 4500 RPM and about 31 MPH. Still running smooth, just didn't have that last little bit of punch you get with a two stroke when you go WOT. I checked the linkage and lubed everything. I wasn't hitting the throttle stop so I adjusted the cable at the adjuster and made sure it still returned to idle position. I ordered another cable thinking this one may have stretched and about to fail. Today, we were out and the boat still will only turn up about 4800 RPM WOT and still lacks the final punch. I had my wife go to full throttle position with the motor off while I watched the linkage and it appears to be hitting the stop now.
I looked in the cylinders with a fiber optic viewer, didn't see anything out of the ordinary other than some carbon on the piston tops. No bad scoring visible on the cylinders. What am I looking at and where do I go from here on diagnosis? Out of ideas right now. Will be acquiring a compression tester on FRI to check all cylinders, but the motor runs smooth and sounds great.
