'92 Yamaha 150 sneeze and idle issues

I have a '92 pro v 150 yammie, the thing runs great except at idle. It is hard to keep running when I first start it, and once warmed up, it will cut out with a sneeze at idle. Idle is set to 900 rpms out of gear. I tried raising it to 1100 rpms just as a test (no driving) and it still cut out.

Carbs were just cleaned and adjusted to specs (as far as I can). Brand new fuel tank, fuel lines, and brand new gas- have not even burned a tank yet, 5 days old.

It will cut out suddenly with a sneeze is the best I can describe. It is also a bear to keep running when you launch for the day- I wish it had a fast idle system or method.

I installed new plugs, they are BR8HS-10 instead of the normal B8HS-10 plugs- does this matter much?

Please help, docking is a total nightmare and I am afraid I may run into someones boat when I lose power.

Thanks

I will also say that it runs great above idle- smooth- and tops out at 4200 rpms and 34 mph- I think I need a prop change? The boat is new to me.

Carbs are fine, just cleaned them- correctly.

After adjusting the timing at idle things smoothed right out, runs great now. I assume the timing was off. I just made tiny adjustments as it ran (advanced the timing arm via the screw) until it ran well.

JJ, you should really start a new post. you are commenting on a post that was made in 2007.

I have some ideas but start a new post. Give specific details, engine model number off port bracket and any maint history, filters, pumps, etc.

It was the carbs- just as JUSTINTIME said.

Get the carbs cleaned, soak them for a day or 2 and then blow compressed air through it all.
