93 4.3/V6 Alpha One slips into forward but not reserve?

Hey guys, got a 93 Mercrusier and I’m new in the boat world, but the problem I am having is going into forward. Sometimes I have to give it more fuel to shift into forward but I can hear it trying also like a grinding noice or slipping news them grabbing the gear and going forward, sometimes it’s smoother then others. And sometimes it goes it but slips and goes, going in reverse is fine like butter no problems goes in the gear fine.

Howdy
Most likely you need a new lower shift cable, they do wear over time and need replacing

Could also need adjusting, and it may help but still going to need replaced

This vid shows the adjustment process for the lower shift cable. It may fix or help your issue, but if your lower shift cable is bad it will eventually need replacement.

Is it hard to change the lower shift cable, looks like difficult haha as it goes way down there

Its not that hard, just takes a few hours

Pull drive
Remove trim senders and pivot bolts
Then start the process of cable replacement
