Looking at purchasing one, stone stock. What is the difference between this motor and a 225, or 260/280? What does it take to up the HP on an EFI 200 reliably?
The difference between a 200 and 225 is the 225 is a 3.0 liter motor. The 260/280's use a modified 2.5 block(port timing,exhaust relief) a different set of electronics,different pressure injectors,ECU (mapping) and front intake. The only way to get extra power cheaply to buy a bigger engine. The few mod's to get extra HP on a stock EFI is costly as your looking at ECU's and injectors.Below are pics of a 280hp...
not just the front half, the complete engines are different. about the only thing they share is mercury phantom black paint.
there are some shops that specialize in grabbing some extra ponies from the 2.0 and 2.5L EFI engines.
however its not cheap and yor warrenty is short.
