I am writing this for a friend. He has a 93 Lowes Pontoon Boat with a 93 90hp Force motor. The problem is this, It starts perfectly and idles good. Then you open up the throttle and drive accross the lake (runs fantastic)and shut the motor down. When you go to restart it (engine still warm) it sputters and will not allow you to give it the gas or it will die. He has had this problem for some time now and has had 3 boat dealers work on it to no evail. They have reworked the carb and even tried a new one. They have checked the timing but came up with no porblem. We are puzzled as what to do with this motor. If I cant help him I think he is going to have a real big anchor. Could there be something simple the mechanics have overlooked. Like a gas tank problem or something any help will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance Steve

Re: 93 Force Motor Problems

Steve,

I have a 1989 Force 85HP that has in the past exhibited similar behavior. Unfortunately I have not gotten to the bottom of it either. My engine is an early version and does not have carb bowl vents. I have always been suspicious that maybe the engine went into a heat soak condition and I wind up with a vapor lock in the carbs. Later versions of the engine I guess had vents. May be worth investigating. I will watch for what others might contribute.

Good Luck.

Re: 93 Force Motor Problems

my 87 force 50 is similar, after i have been running for a while, and then idle back, sometimes when i try to take off and give it the gas, it will die, i have found that if i just sorta really gun it at first and then throttle back (or not :) ) it will go.. but there is a definite deadspot in the foot feed so to speak. i have learned to live with it, but i too will be watching this post for answers...

jason
