93 Johnson 20hp spuddering?

I have a 93 johnson 20hp two stroke. It has been setting up for a while. I rebuilt the carborator, clean the plugs. When it runs it spudders every once in a while like once or twince at the most while running wide open. Could the points be rusty a little causeing the spuddering/popping noise?

Running too rich, Hunter.<br /><br />If you have an adjustable high speed jet, turn it CW about 1/4 turn. If not, you may have your float set a bit high.<br /><br />Good luck.
