I have a 1993 3 hp johnson motor. I could not get it to start and put new plugs in. Still did not start. Took off the carb and cleaned it. Saw that the air sliencer had a crack in it. Could that be my problem?

The crack in your silencer cover is not your problem... You can run the motor with that cover off completely. Mechanic told me the most important part is the fuel return line at the bottom of the silencer assy.

What's the history of this motor? Did you just buy it?

First things first, you put new plugs in, but did you check to see if they were sparking? Should have thick spark on a tester at 3/8 inch gap.

Let me know how that test turns out and we can go from there.

The spark plugs were already pre gapped. And i had good spark. Im beggining to think its in the fuel line. Maybe the fuel filter needs changing?. I just bought the motor from a guy last month. He said that the choke had to be turn a specific way b 4 it would crank.
