i have a 93 omc HO 5.0 cobra that we have been having a hell of a time trying to diagnose. First I will start with a little history. we got this boat a few years ago and never had any major problems with it but is was always somewhat hard to start when warm but no big deal then it sat winterized for 2 years without being ran and this year we decided to rebuild the carb and replace the choke after doing that we test ran it on the hose and it ran great it idled great ran great all through the RPM range so we took it to the lake and that is when the problems began. the first time out it would run great get up on plane then suddenly it would die like i turned off the switch but it would isntantly restart when i tried to restart and it kept doing this over and over again every time between 1/2 and full throttle. (lots of fun with just the wife my 3 year old and I) So we packed it in and headed for home. The next day I took it out with a friend and we had the same issues. we found a loose alternator belt and tightened it and magically the problem went away. we made a couple passes on the tiny lake by home and it didn't do it so we thought it was fixed then it started to bog down on full throttle and loose power but it would clear up in a few seconds and come back to full power. We made a few more passes and had the same issues so we figured it was bad gas and water in the fuel from sitting for 2 years. yesterday we drained every drop of gas out of it and replaced the spin on fuel filter checked all the fuel lines replaced the plugs, cap and rotor filled it with new gas and headed to a bigger lake that we would really be able to cruse on for a few minuets before needing to turn around but we still had the same issue from 3000rpm to full throttle again ew packed it in and headed for home and that is when the real fin began. 5 miles from home we burned out the bearings on the trailer. so we tore it apart on the side if the highway spent three hours driving to three stores to find the parts and finally made it home and gave up for the day. Tomorrow we are going to rig up an electric fuel pump just to eliminate the original pump as possibility going bad . So I'm hoping that one of the guru's around here will have another idea to try before we head to the lake again so that we don't need to spend two hours to get to and from the lake just to find out that it hasn't changed.
