93 OMC Cobra 4.3L Trim Gage not working

I have a 93 OMC Cobra 4.3L. At the beginning of this season, the trim gage was stuck all the way in the "up" position. This has also occurred at the beginning of previous years. After a few minutes of running the gage would unstick itself and then work properly. The same thing occurred this year, the gage was stuck in the "up" position again. This year, however, the gage went from the full "up" position, and is now stuck in the full "down" position. Does anybody have a wiring diagram which shows the trim gage circuit? I'm also not sure where the sender unit is located, or what it looks like. I've checked the outdrive, but nothing looks like the sender to me. Is the sender external or internal? I have a digital multimeter and I'm fairly experienced with electrical troubleshooting. Please help...
