351 ford prestolite point ign.engine will spin,voltages are up,engine will start of at least fire just as u release the ign. switch from start pos.engine has external resistor on it..timing light shows no fire at all until u release,any help at all would be appreciated since i've used my allotment of cuss words on this one.......tks.

during start the external reisitor sould be bypassed by the starter solenoid to start. Sounds like that circuit is "open" sp the resistor never gets bypassed. You should read battery voltage on the coil + during cranking. If not, the problem is as I said. About 1/2 battery volts with ignition on and points closed. (Remeember, battery volts are less than 12 during cranking due to the huge load of the starter.)
