Wait, he said it 'boggs' down, not spins up to full rpm and goes nowhere.

So, what Does it do when you try to advance the throttle, just goes "blaaa....", right??????

First check for spark in all 3 cylinders. Pull all the plugs out, stick them back in the boots, ground the plugs to the block, and have someone crank the motor over. Be sure you have a flusher on a bit so the impeller isn't turning dry.

Check for all the carbs opening up when you advance the throttle.

Check your fuel supply/hoses for restriction, who knows you may have a plugged fuel filter.

I'm kinda leaning towards spark issues, especially with the track record on these motors for stator failures.

To check out the resistance of the stator windings, you'll need a VOM (sears or rad shack sells good cheap digital meters). Also good to have a Seloc or equivalent manual handy as a reference.

You may have one of the (2) sets of windings in the stator burnt out. These are the blue and red wires coming out of the stator, to the power pack. If only (1) set is operating, the motor will start and idle but won't accellerate.

Anyway, the most likely causes of your problem are ign or fuel, best to start in those areas.

HTH and let us know what you find...........ed

Has the engine sat unused for a while? If so, I would imagine its carb gunk related, as I have seen this before...

Mine does something similar, but it just planes slow...runs great once it gets up...I have some kind of exhaust leak into the cowl, I guess... You could try and remove the cover and see if makes a difference...but be cautioned, as I think water backwash when I slowed down fried my up-trim solenoid...

Hey guys , changed the spark plugs, seemed bad, and changed the fuel filter, after the 2 days of rain got to see what happened, the boat ran fine just like new, so i wetted a hook , caught a 4 # and 4 little ones on a rat-l-trap it was awesome, but then when i took off to change spots it spun out a lil but and caughed sorta and sputtered then got up and got after it, i got that clear glass fuel filter, and u can obviously tell theres plenty of small particles coming from somewhere, maybe in a hose as its sorta black, should i just change filter every now and again , or what do you guys recommend, thanks again,

Be sure to flush out the built-in engine fuel filter too. I had rotten gas tanks and clogged mine up before the previous owner put an inline filter on, but never bothered to flush the screen where the fuel line bolts onto the pump under the engine cowl....

- Dennis

Well as far as the lines, steel lines will rust, but I'd be more concerned about a rotting rubber line, like the one with the primer bulb on it, replace that and any other rubber lines you can see from gas tank. My boat has steel line running from tank to transom where the rubber hose clamps on it.

The fuel filter screen should be easy to get to, but its been a while since I checked mine too. Where the fuel line enters the engine hood, follow it to the fuel pump. There should be 4-5 bolts holding the fuel pump together there where the fuel line ends. I think if you remove those, the outside piece will come off and you'll see a screen in there, yeah just blow it out with some brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Its a really fine-meshed screen as I recall. Just make sure its clean as if you just added an inline filter and its turning black, chances are that the fuel filter at the pump is full of dirt too...

Good luck!
