Ok here's a question for the pros on here. About 3 weekends ago I decided to head to lake powell with the boat. Its a 1994 Maxum 18'with open b. With a 94 120 force. The motor runs great, but I did notice a bit more smoke than usual. Is this because outside temperature on the lake was 38-46? f. Or possibly another issue? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thank.

Not sure about smoke, but my 1988 125HP motor definitely puts out more steam out of the idle relief ports when the temperatures are that low.

Ditto steam. More smoke will equate to harder starts. Sorry nonpro answer

Well thanks for the info. Maybe the smoking more is just in my head cause she fires right up
with no problems. Im planning to head back to powell in a couple weeks so ill take better notice on the smoke this time. Thanks again.

I thought I was reading about me for a second,, ha ha . I was at powell this fall and noticed the same kind of thing from my 94 force 120 , it turned out to be a cracked cylinder. check your plugs, if they all look the same don't sweat it.

There's a difference between smoke and steam. Smoke lingers on and floats around in the air..steam should dissipate quickly. Smoke is common in earlier 2 strokes and so is steam if you're boating in cold weather. Check your plugs and look for water intrusion. If no signs of water are found I wouldnt worry about it.
