I am loosing my mind ! I have 2 circuit boxes on the back of my motor that look exactly the same. On the out side cover of them are 2 other electricle parts that look very much like rectifiers.

I can only assume that with a 40 amp system that the voltage regulators are 20 amp each. When I go and try to buy the parts on Iboasts. They are selling me a 40 amp voltage regulator.

Now, what is going to happen when I install the 40 amp v/r and my boat has another 20 amp v/r as well.

I have a clymer repair manual that I know was wrote by someone on crack.

I guess this is the price you pay for not taking it to a dealer. Can anyone help me with this mess?

That 40A regulator is for a different year of motor. CDI (as well and Merc) makes a 20A replacement regulator, which is the one you want. Either go to the CDI site and look it up, or google search the OEM number and the CDI replacement will pop up.

The only other twin electronics(other than switchboxes and coils for the ignition) that motor has is solenoids for the trim.

It sounds like you nees a service manual

Yes your are correct. You have two identical 20 amp units to produce the 40 amp rating.
