I have a 1994 mercury 150 xr6. Last summer i had an issue with a selenoid going out and it locked my motor in the full up position. It stayed up until I replaced the bad selenoid. My problem that i am having now is my motor bleeds down in a matter of seconds and when I lift it up to lock it I have to help it(manually lift the motor while pushing the switch up). This is a really frustrating problem. I have replaced the manual release valve and the electric pump was replaced a year ago. I have also attemted to bleed the system out several times with no change in my symptoms. Everything worked perfect before the selenoid went out. I need help!!!:D

Is pressure leaking out of the main cylinder, any signs of the power trim oil coming out the top or leaking into the water. Do you have to fill the oil level often? Is the manual release valve fully screwed in or a possible air leak there? Sounds like a hydraulic issue to me rather than an electrical one.

i'm certain that it is a hydrolic problem my only issue is what. I put a brand new release valve in and it's tight. the fluids are topped from what i have been told. and i have heard about five different ways to bleed the air out and none have worked(if that's the problem) don't know where to go. I know if I take it to a shop i'm lookin at a huge bill.

Unless the work environment was absolutely clean/dirt-free, it is possible that some debris could have gotten into the pump, now causing pump failure. Sounds like you need to take the motor/pump assembly out and get a good luck. If you're lucky you won't need to replace the whole thing again (around $500+ )...good luck. i just had to order the whole power trim/tilt assembly, coming on monday ($880).. It had leaks in the cylinders, motor was bad, pump was bad, and fill nut was stripped apart...

ok fingers crossed. I noticed that when i am running the pump i can hear what sounds like air in it. I amy not have it bled all the way. it sounds like it's cavatating. where would i have to look for dirt in the pump would it be plain to see or would i have to clean everything and what would i use to do it?
