94' 250hp sws alarm

I have a 94' 250hp and everytime I go over 2000rpm an alarm sounds and power cuts back to 800 rpm. There is normal water flow for cooling so I'm wondering if this is an oil related problem. My dash gauges don't work well so i can't trust them. My oil tank is full but I've been told it could be the somthing wrong with the sending unit for the oil causing the alarm to go off. Thoughts / repair ideas? ( first post - thanks)

is the engine oil tank actually full?
the remote tank wont set any alarms nor RPM reduction.
and 800 is way to far back, RPM reduction will limit you to around 2000 or so.
time for a general diagnostic session to include hooking up the diagnostic test lamp and look for codes.
none of the codes will trugger an alarm but you need to find out what is going on.
