Ive got a 94 90hp Force by Merc. When I get to the lake it starts right up and purrs like a kitten. I can run it from an idle to wide open for about as long as I want. After I shut it off and fish for a few hours and crank it back up it starts right up. But everytime I go to give it some throttle it boggs down and dies. It will do this once or as many as 30 times. Then it runs great again. I pulled the carbs off last night and visually inspected them and inside the bowls. All looked clean. I checked the filter and it doesnt have any restrictions and is clean. I had just replaced the plugs before I backed it in the water. When I checked them they had a little oil on them, not bad. There is some sort of vacum valve that has a hose that runs from the top carb bowl to it and the other vacum line on it runs to the manifold. The one coming from the bowl is full of gas but I would imagine it should . This is all I can think of for now. Any suggestions ? I plan on taking it back out Friday. Thanks !

Jimmy....I'm going to move your post over to Chrysler/Force repairs. Should get a response over there.

Assuming the basics:
The fuel tank vent is open.
The fuel line bulb pumps up firm, and doesn't go flat when underway.
Engine is running normally in other regards, such as holeshot and wide open throttle?

Have you had it out since the initial problem?
How long have you had the boat?
When did the problem start?
If you run it for awhile, stop it, and try to restart it right away, does it do the same thing?
Did you use the choke when restarting the engine?
Any excess of fuel coming out of the exhaust into the water?
Any fuel spitting back out of the carb(s) when this happens?
Does it start and run normally if you let it completely cool down?

I know, lots of questions, give us as much info as possible.

Sure sounds like it is flooding out when you try to accellerate. It may be time to do a rebuild on the carbs, and then a link n'sync. You sure don't want one of those carbs to be running lean.

When I get to the lake it fires right up. Runs across the water for a long time 30 minutes to an hour of stop and go. Then I will stop and fish for about an hour or so. Its pretty much cold again but it fires right off with little effort. It idles smooth but when I go to give it throttle it will try to accelerat then just bwaaaa bogg down. It will do it any were from 1 to 20 or 30 times. Then all of a sudden BAM its running like new again. It has new plugs. Ive had it for about 6 months and it started this the 4th time I had it out. But it only bogged down once or twice then ran fine the rest of the day. Its progressively getting worse. I have had the carbs off my self and looked in the bowls and it was very clean. I didnt pull out the jets though. My dad thinks I need to empty the gas and put fresh gas with a good mixture of oil and retry it, but if it was that would it be intermittent ? I am going to try and find a fuel pump rebuild kit and try that if I dont get any response. Does anyone know of a good place to get a rebuild kit ? How about for the carbs ? Is that a do it yourself kinda thing ? Thanks !

Fuel pump diaphram is a good idea. It may have a hole in it that is allowing fuel under pressure, to leak down into the engine, creating a flooded condition. The longer you sit and fish, the more fuel leaks in. ?

Its a good place to start, they should be changed every few years anyway.

You can get one at any Mercury dealer, Napa auto parts store, or from http://www.mercurypartsexpress.com/PartsExpress/ProductSelection/ServiceParts/sphome.asp?CID=

I get mine from Mercuryparts express. They come with instruction sheets.

Fresh gas is always a good idea. And make sure you don't have a bunch of dirt in the bottom of the gas tank.

Keep us, well me anyway, posted on your progress.

OK. I replaced the pressure bulb and rebuilt the fuel pump. I took it out last night and it started like my wifes new Honda Accord. The wind was blowing really hard and it was dark when I got there so I drove it around the lake for about an hour. Everything was working perfectly. I shut it off just a few times but I didnt let it sit for very long. It cranked up everytime. I was heading back in after about 2 hours. I was only going about 4-5 mph. Wind was strong, waves were big and boy was it dark. Got about half way across the lake and blaaaaaa it died. I reached back and checked the bulb and it was soft again. It took about 5-7 good squeezes to pressure it back up. It started and had full power again. I went about 100 yards then blaaaaaa it died once more. I reached back and the bulb still had pressure ? It started right up and off I went. As I was loading the boat it started to die agin so I hit the choke button and it picked back up. Sounds like its running out of gas huh ? My fuel line where it clicks on the tank does seem a little loose and it fell off at the house when it got bumped. Do you think thats the problem ? I am getting close to getting it fixed. I HOPE !!!!!

I have found that if there is any leak that air can get into the fue system it will cause stalling.

You mentioned you had the carbs off however you may need to rebuild them. After removing the rubber gaskets and seals you should soak in a mild carb cleaner and blast out the passages with compressed air. Sounds like you may have a needle valve sticking and the fuel is not getting through. When you press on the primer bulb you are forcing the needle open and allowing fuel to get into the carb
