Hello everyone. New boat owner here, and I am about to replace the stringers, and floor in my Capri 1700 la. I have a few questions, and looking for advise. 1st is what should I replace the stringers with wood or can I use expanding foam? 2nd, as for the floor, is treated pine plywood alright? I only paid $300. for the boat so can complain. Few dings in gel-coat (nothing major), and a missing glass from left side window, and the floor/stringers.

Congratulations on the boat purchase, and good luck on the project! I think in general, everyone here advises to use exterior grade plywood for the stringers, bulkhead and deck. Coat it in resin and wrap it in 1708.

:welcome: to iBoats. . .

It's a Bayliner . . . use wood . . . no need to get fancy with foam materials. But if you must, check out Urethane foam sheets, Divinycell, and Coosa board. Regular Exterior grade plywood will be fine though.

Take lots of measurements, so you can build it back so everything fits.

That missing glass panel on the windshield may set you back some $$$. You might find something through a boat salvage yard. Is it flat glass or curved?

Thanks for the info guys. I'll check it out. I have some other repairs as well that I'm sure I'll have questions about. We will save them for when I get there.

Not sure what glass panel on the windshield your referring to. I am missing the side glass, but its flat and I was going to get a piece of plexi, and was planning on tinting the windows a little bit.
