I noticed a black oily substance running down the leg when I returned home from fishing, It looks like its coming from the gasket between the lower leg and the exhaust housing I think. I could be wrong but I am not to good with the terminology. Also I figured I would check the lower unit oil and it definatley has water in it...Please help guys what is going on here?

It is very likely carbon, an unburnt fuel/oil mixture, which is very normal. Check out this link for added reading.

If you like, check the level of the gearcase fluid to verify that it is not leaking and there is no water present, buy Im pretty certain that you will find you are ok.

Thanks, I read that article, but is it normal for it to be leaking so excessivly? IS that the reason there was a water mixed with oil in the lower unit also?

My mistake, I dont recall reading the added part about there definately being water in the lower unit. Could you post a pic of the lu? You may have water intrusion, along with a normal carbon leak.

Start by changing the oil with full synthetic along with new gaskets on the drain and vent screws, as they are only good for a 1 time use. This is a usual spot for water intrusion. Take the boat for a rip, then remove the drain screw. Water is heavier than oil, and will sit at the bottom of the gearcase. If the water is no longer present, you are good to go If it is still present, and the oil looks milky white, you will either need to pressure test the lu to find the breach, or simply re seal the entire lu.
