94 Evinrude 20 hp burp/far-/hic-up at moderate throttle, is this normal?

my 94 20 hp Evinrude runs pretty good at idle now thanks to the insight gained from the great folks here and I truly appreciate the help. I thought I would challenge your knowledge a bit more..
First off I know its a two stroke and I should expect some burping and fa-tng however my Stihl 086 weedwacker runs like a top without a miss, as does my Jonered 675 chainsaw and my Husquvarna 045 (I think thats the model) brush cutter and they are all two strokes too.
The reason I ask is should expect the o/b to run as smootly or is it in the nature of two stroke outboards to burp and far- as they run...Mine is worse at mid throttle...wish I could upload an audio tape but I haven't a clue about that..anyway it'll run at mid throttle and every 3 to 10 seconds or so....burp...more of a hic-up really like amissed beat....
If its not normal can I fix it? and how...thanks.

I would assume that you are running lean.

This will eventually ruin the engine, so find the cause.

Don't jump your own thread here. Keep this on top by asking questions until you have your motor running perfectly.

Never thought about it being lean with all the smoke, thanks....I don't think there is any adjustment on my carb other than the idle mixture????

and should I get a moderator to delete this thread or incorporate it into the other one (idle mixture screw out 7 1/2 turns) ?

If the carb throttle plate is opening to early. that will give a lean mixture. Is the throttle plate in time with the ignition armature plate, as to the service manual? You can't just dance with the adjustment's on these engine's and hope for good results.
