I have just purchased a boat with an 94 evinrude 28 hp consol steer motor. I would like to know if there is any inherent problems with these motors that I should look for. I have not run it yet as it has been below freezing every day around here. Would it be harmfull to run this engine in say 40 degree temps during the day. My fear is that any water that is left in the unit afterward would freeze at night and do some damage .Also what is the proper way to get an engine ready to run after long storage. ( this boat is kept outside)
Thanks flathead

Flathead,
The 28 SPL is a great motor. I had a 1989 that NEVER had a problem and I ran it hard. You will have no problem running in lower temps. When you are done for the day, just make sure to leave the lower unit in the down(Vertical)position and the Water will drain out fine.
