My engine sounds like a hot rod with a cam when it is at idle but runs fine when you push on the throttle. Is this normal?

thanks

Thanks, another problem I’m having is that the boat will prime and then the bulb will stay very hard even after sitting for a week but the boat will run sputter and die and not start again because it acts like it’s not getting fuel I have to use starting fluid which I won’t do it again because I found out that’s a big no-no so I have been told that it could be the mission system it could be the fuel pump that they would of course just have to check it out at $115 an hour looking for suggestions what to check out. Thanks

What is your starting procedure ?-----You are pushing the key in while cranking it over ?----Raising the fast idle lever ?----How did it start for you last year ?-----Possibly your first time with a boat and motor ?

I just prime the bulb till it’s firm then pushing the choke the motor and usually it cranks up pretty quickly. I have had it out here running went back inside for about 45 minutes came back out and it cranked right back up I push the button in there by the throttle so I could engage the gas without the prop running and it seems to be OK I’m checking the gas lines right now to see if I see any cracks or anything I will say that I can squeeze the bulb and hear it pushing gas into the fuel pump I guess

You asked me about it starting and running last year I just bought the boat from a guy who says it had been rebuilt. I did not see any cracks in gas lines or vacuum lines.

I went out to the boat after almost 3 hours and it started right up. Do you know where I can get a service manual for this motor? Thanks for your help
