Smokes real bad at idle..... enough so that it is incomfortable without a good breeze. Is this a carbon isssue? VRO mixing too rich? Engine is new to me this year, unsure of past maintenance. Any suggestions to get fresh air?

Thanks

Re: 94 Johnson-175 smoky

do you troll with this motor.? you might want to start with decarbing the cylinders with seafoam. also what do you use for oil? in my 90 i use penzoil semi-synthetic which seems to have cut the smokeness down greatly. i dont know anything about the vro system so may be some body else with more knowledge can help you there. still the first 2 suggestions will not hurt atall and may even give you a better performing motor.

It may be as simple as your idle air mixture may be off. I believe this engine has adjustable idle screws. Try adjusting them per the manual.
