So do I need to clear the computer to get rid of the idiot light? (pull the + battery lead)

Confirm your block temp first.....check for break in id light wire......if temp doesn't match sensor is faulty.....should run bad if sensor is bad computer gets wrong temp info

If I go off of just the gauge it comes up as usual and gets to the N or the O in the -NORMAL- when driving.
Idiot light comes on when the vehicles key is turned on from a dead cold start.

So there should be 3 wires in the sender on the engine, two for the gauge and one for the idiot light?

To add, this is a 94 or 93?, I do not think there is a computer.

Re: 94 powerstroke engine temp light

I have the same problem with the water in fuel light, have tried everything and can't get it to go out!

Having said that, check out this thread at powerstrokenation.com

Eng. Temp. light came on but... - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

Talking about the exact same thing with a couple of pictures for sensor location.

Thanks guys, will check the wire to the sender first, hopefully not the PCM or whatever its called.

As for the water in fuel sensor, got the same issue in the f-800 but it blinks (as does the temp idiot light) I am thinking its a poor ground/connection, or if its on the hot side a rub point.
MTBG, try removing the filter and wipe/clean the head of the sender, you may have a build up of moisture/gunk on it, seen that before.
