I have a 1994 Mirada with a 3.0 Volvo Penta SX drive. The outboard works fine triming up and down but will not trim up high enough for trailoring. it reaches a stopping point going up and sounds as though the motor is straining to lift. i know yhe cylinders have at least 3 inches more travel left. It has a two wire motor on it and I have tried strait wiring it to the battery and it still will not lift high enough. I have also unhooked the cylinders from the unit and the foot lifts all the way up very easily. When on the trailer, the bottom of the scag is only about 2 inches off the ground. And it is tearing it up everytime i travel. I have a friend with similar boat and drive, with same length cylinders. His raises much further than mine will. Please help! i have no local dealer near me and cant take it far enough to one without tearing up the foot!

Have the trim cylinders been replaced with some used ones? Sounds like they may have spacers in them that prevents the drive from going up too high and hitting the swim step or something. Volvo sells spacers of different sizes.

Not sure about the cylinder stops. I just bought the boat from a friend a few months ago and he said it was that way when he purchased it also! Would they be inside the cylinders on the rams?

Yes, you just remove the end cap and take out the U shaped plastic spacer (#22 in the picture below)

Thank you very much! Will both cylinders have them? And if so, will it be ok for me to just cut them down a bit and reinstall them? I don't want to go too high and damage swim platform.

Yes, they both will have one. You can get different sizes. If you do cut them down, make sure they are exactly the same height or you will twist things and break something.
