So I've been fighting trying to get this 95 J115SXEOC to run right for a year now. Well I didn't play with it over the winter but I'm coming back to it. Long story short it's the classic "runs great on land, dies at WOT in water".

I pulled all 4 carbs and the 2 manifolds off to thoroughly clean out all the passages, and while inspecting the piece the fuel pump is mounted to I found it to be leaking. I now know this part is called a Vapor Separator Tank with a Vapor Pump attached to it. I did some research and it seems the function of this device is to ensure the fuel pump is getting only gas - no air.

My question is this: This motor, once a VRO oil-injection motor, has been converted to run off a basic vacuum controlled fuel pump and I pre-mix the gas. This was done by the person I purchased the boat from. Is this fuel-separator contraption really essential to operation if I'm not running a VRO pump? Could I get creative with some hoses and eliminate this thing?

It really seems like it's just an extra part that can be causing a problem... I don't fully understand if it has a purpose outside of a VRO setup. Can it be eliminated?
