1995 MERC. FORCE....No Fire all plugs, What is the procedure for checking stator, I know where it is & what it is. I have a volt/ohm meter. I don't know the procedure or color codes. I checked the kill switch /ok. Is the stator next? Was running great, turned off for approx 15mins. Will not start up.

Re: "95" 120hp FORCE, No Fire

I have two 92 mariners and have had a lot of problems with stators. To check the stator follow the wires from the stator there should be two red and two blue wires (hopefully mariner and force are similar). Check for continuity between the two red and then the two blue wires. If you do not have continuity between the two similar colored wires the stator needs to be replaced. If you buy a replacement stator ($250)make sure it is red. The old ones (black)will break again after about a year or so of use. Also do not tighten the bolts that keep the stator on too tight, you can strip them eaisly. Good Luck
