Hi guys,
I have a 1995 evinrude 150 Ocean Pro, always ran good.
I'm selling the motor and had the compression tested the other day,
even compression all was good. Put the plugs back in and now it won't
start. No spark in any plugs. Please help

Barry, The ignition switch grounds a lead to the powerpack to kill the spark. You might disconnect the black/yellow wire at the powerpack and retest. If that's not it, you will need to troubleshoot the stator and trigger.

Start at the begining. When you took a compression test did you pull the kill switch? How are you checking for spark?

If kill switch is still connected, disconnect the large red cannon plug and test for spark again.

Re: 95 150 evinrude no spark

Good Morning,
and thanks for the reply.
I did not disconnect the kill switch, before we removed the spark plugs and tested for compression.
I don't even know where the kill switch is. No manual here. I know this
can be a waste of time when I don't have the correct references.
I apologize for this.
However, Motor was running tops before test so thought this may be simple.
I tested the spark the old fashioned way first by holding it close and secondly with the srew driver, nothing.
I will disconnect the large red cannon plug and also check the black and yellow wire.
If anyone knows where the kill switch is on this motor it would be appreciated.
Thanks for your help, ckeck back soon.

Is there a "dead man" button on the control box? If so, you might want to check that (BTDT).

Kill switch is often on the control box or near the ignition key,
not on the engine.

Re: 95 150 evinrude no spark

Good day everyone and thanks for your help. Sorry it's been a couple days,
but the rain has been relentless here in the North East.
Update, I disconnected boot, disconnected Black and yellow wire, still no spark
When I tilted motor up and removed carb covers alot of gas came out. I removed all plugs disconnected gas line and pumped motor dry. Cleaned all plugs and reinstalled. Since I was redoing everything I figured I would also replace the negative battery terminal on the battery since it was still snugged down with a wing nut. I then changed the fuse at the fusible link by the red boot plug.
The motor fired up first turn and ran like a pro.
So I think the answer here, was the following, but I'm not sure.
When I fired the motor for the compression check fuel line was still connected. This obviously flooded the carbs. I turned the key for long durations while it was flooded. I noticed the terminals were heating up, this obviously was the reason for the fuse blowing. The responsible party a wing nut on the negative terminal.
Question when testing compression should fuel line be disconnected?
Thanks again for all your help-Barry
