I am rebuilding my motor, a 1995 Volvo Penta 5.0 (392) FL PHUE, on a newly purchased boat that I got ripped off on, and am having problems finding parts. I found these head bolts Edelbrock 8552 Head Bolt Kit : Amazon.com : Automotive and I'm not sure if they will work. I also don't know if it is absolutely necesarry to replace the camshaft, but if it is I can't find one. Finally is there a complete gasket set, or am I stuck buying each one seperately. The part number for the head bolts is 3857029 and I can't seem to pin them down. Can I use my old ones, I know it is strongly advised against, but I am kind of stuck here.

If your 5.0 is a Ford 302 then those should be fine. If rebuilding definitely use a new camshaft, timing gears and chain, and lifters. I'm sure one of the admins will post a link to camshaft, and gasket numbers. We used to think nothing of reusing old head bolts but that was years ago and different times. Engines nowadays have much tighter clearances and specifications. Torque really needs to be correct and old bolts will give you "eh close enough" torque.

Thanks walt, I'm going to go ahead and order them then. I was just hoping that the edelbrock head isn't a different size than mine.

They should recommend the correct bolts for that head. You should call them and make sure if only for peace of mind. They will also help you with the camshaft selection.

Its a 95 its a roller. Done many a Mustang 5.0. Ya know whats wild I had a 69 Mustang fastback 4 speed 4:10 gears 390 CID back in the day and these 5.0's would leave it in the dust on a 1/4 mile. The 69 might get out of the hole quicker but that's about it.

What is the casting number on your head? Do yourself a favor and put E7TE or GT40 heads on if it doesn't have 'em.

I had a marine Ford 5.0 with E5AE heads and it was a dog, I put the E7TE mustang heads on it and boy did it wake the motor up.
