95 evinrude 200 counter roation

Just swapped motors on a boat and having a couple problems,half the motor is only firing and once i swap the2 wires on stator the other half fires. Also the motor will atempt to start then kick back the opposite direction (spinning counter clockwise)and run for about 3 seconds. Thinking the stator is shot for the firing problem. Please help or give me some advise. Thanku

I believe there is circuitry in the powerpack to prevent the engine from running in reverse. Get the manual and do the tests , or pay the man.

It will run in reverse...tears the **** out of impeller. Has pack or stator been replaced and which wires are you swapping???

the wires i swapped were the two sets of brown wires which control each side of stator,two of the exact same color wires and plugs the same. i have a few power packs and they all do the same thing, same results.also tried swapping timer baseand no difference at all. i'm waiting for new stator to get here and i'l go from there. this is the first time i ever saw a motor kick back and start to spin the opposite direction.how is this even possible
