95 Evinrude will not trim down, but trims up?

Hey guys...I have a 95 Evinrude on my Hurricane deck boat... My engine will not trim down, but it will trim up.. I can hear the trim motor running when I push the button to trim it down, but its not moving... Its stuck in the up position out of the water and I cant get it down..Any ideas?

this may seem elementary, and i don't know how much experience you have with boats, but did you make sure the motor lock was not in place? most outboards have them to support the motor during travel.

Legitimate question actually, but no , the motor lock isnt in place...

Open up your manual release valve about two turns and then see if it will come down.

Thanks Boobie... It was actually slightly low on trim fluid... I opened the fill screw, put in more trim fluid and VOILA!.. Motor goes up and down no problem now.. I obviously have a slow leak, probably in the gasket...
