Hi everyone I’m in need of help!! thanks in advance!!!

i have a issues with my idle being way to high at around 2500rpm. I played with all my adjustment and nothing I do brings down the rpm. Engine start everytime no issues and here a list of what I did.

Engine is in test tank!!

Did a deep carb cleaned In all three carb And set carb air/ fuel Screws to oem specs at 2 and 1/4 turns out ccw from seated.

idle timing is at 6 Degree per spec.

also one thing that I did not mess with is air bleeder screw on top. When I put everything back together I just turn it cw all the way till it seated. Not sure if that is the issues Cause I couldn’t find anything about the air bleeder screw.

any tips would help thanks!!

Forget about idle timing. Did.you make sure all the carb butterflies are closed? Is the throttle cable pulling the linkage tight against screw?

Yes all carb are close and Cable is against screw. Also carb link not touching the cam follower.

You have to be very careful when you start adjusting timing.------If you are setting idle timing as per " granpa's 283 chevy " you may be wrong.-------Idle timing is where the throttle plates open.----Throttle plates are to be closed at idle.----Then idle is slowed by retarding the timing.-----Where the timing is at nice slowly idle simply does NOT MATTER.----What was the motor doing / not doing that convinced you to start adjusting things ??

At first engine was hard to start or not at all, so I did a deep cleaning of all three carb. After cleaning it started right up but issue is Just getting high idle that I can’t seem to get it down. Oem spec said that idle should be around 850 and idle timing should be between 6-8 degrees! So that’s why I started looking and adjusting in that area. So right now I’m stuck cause engine sounds good and starts everytime with just two cranks. So do the air bleeder have anything to do with it you think?

Figure out a way to rotate the timer base to slow the idle down by retarding the timing.

That’s this screw Under the timer base right? And I also have a rpm tach on my coil to check on rpm!! Also do I worry about the timing or just the rpm?

It’s a cheap one off eBay and I’m still trying to set it to stroke 3cyl setting. It’s a pain at the moment.

You set your tach to a 2 strk setting only it does not care how many cylinders the motor has. Does your motor have quick start? The idle speed of 850 rpm is set in gear and on the lake when the motor is at operating temp. Get a factory manual before you damage your engine. You cannot set the idle speed on muffs. If.your tach is for a 4 strk your reading is going to be extremely off. If it is a 4 strk tach you idle is probably closer to 1200 which would.be normal on muffs.
