Hey Fellas,

I had some problems starting my boat a couple months back. My buddies and I have traced the problem to the powerpack/coil. The boat would startup intermittent. So we metered with a DVM and narrowed the problem down to the powerpack/coil. While I was cranking the motor my buddy gently tapped the powerpack and the boat started right up. So I noticed the connections had some corrosion so I took the powerpack off and cleaned the connections and retightened them and applied some grease to the connections. The boat started right up 5 times in a row after. After letting the boat sit for a couple weeks I went and tried to start it again. Once again it would not start unless I tapped the connections where the coils and powerpack are bolted. So my question is do I need to replace the powerpack or coil? Or is there something else I should be doing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been learning allot from the guys on this forum and greatly appreciate everything thus far.

There are actually 6 seperate coils on that mtr but it looks like you only have 3. If you were tapping on the power pack it self, I'd say you have a bad pack as long as the stator out put was okay and the osi was okay.

It appeared everything had power going to where it needed. Once I get the motor started after tapping, it runs like a top afterwards. After letting it sit for a week or two. It seems it won't start unless I tap on the bolts of the coils where the power pack and coils are bolted down. Once again the connections were cleaned and tightened.

Come and tap on my engine, you seem to have the touch.:)

Check for loose pins in the plug ends to/from powerpack, clean with CRC elec cleaner spray from Napa ( with a toothbrush or pipe cleaner) and use dialectric grease to seal.

The powerpack mounting screws are the ground, remove and clean it all up.
