I have a 1996 150 HP Evinrude Ocean Pro with Optical Ignition. The model of the engine is E150EX. It is on a 1981 Grady White Overnighter that I have totally restored, and the boat had no gauges on it before. I have hooked up the voltmeter. I need to know where to look for the wire for the tach, ( I believe it comes off of the alternator), and the wire coming off of the tilt/trim switch. If anyone could give me the color and location of the wires I need back by the motor I will run it up to the sending post on the gauges.
Thanks in advance

Re: '96 150 Evinrude Ocean Pro gauge wiring

The wire should already be in the harness that goes forward. My '85 Johnson had a plug on the binnacle for the tach connection. The wire with the mating connector for the tach came with the controls wiring package. It was really simple. You need a wiring diagram for YOUR motor or a conversation with your local BRP dealer.

There is no original wiring harness in the boat. I do not have a owners manual and cannot afford one, hence the posting on this site. I appreciate your response, but at the end of the day, what good does it do me. Please commander, let someone with a manual tell me what the color codes are for the wires I asked for in my previous post.
Thanks in advance

Re: '96 150 Evinrude Ocean Pro gauge wiring

do you at least have a wiring harness coming from the MOTOR????

the wire will be gray anyway..

but the first guy trying to find out what you have..

if you dont have a wireing harness at all from the motor, then it doesnt matter what color the wire you dont have is!!!

right?

I have a 1997 evinrude Ocean Pro 90 hp

and it has a huge PLUG with 8 wires that goes to my tach( the tach has a reciever for that plug.

but my MOTOR wiring harness ALSO has a spare gray wire to hook up to a different style Tach....

Like I have a Tiempo( light blue body) that has seperate wires... and I have the red tach with the plug fitting.

the tach also needs the light supplu wires.. and an ignition( purple) wire hooked up so it turns on when the keys is on...

unless of course you have the 8 pin plug on your MOTOR wiring harness

if you dont have any wiring coming from your motor into the boat...you have greater issues

good luck
