Hi,

I just picked up a 70hp Yamaha. I noticed that I've got this hose coming up from the lower unit near the shift rod. It runs toward the bottom of the engine cowl and has a plastic nipple on the end. It's not connected to anything and I'm wondering where does it go? I can't really tell. Can someone enlighten me?

TIA,

Al

That tube connects to a hose that goes in to the lower unit, next to your water pump and is attached to the airpressure pitot; you will see a hole on the side of your lower unit; as you motor along water and air pressure combined to send air up the line to you speedo. Most times if your speedo does not work, it means that the tiny hole has sand and mud blocking the passage. If you blow (your lungs will do) into the line going under your cowl, you should see the needle on your speedo move. to fix, just connect up the end of the line with the nipple to the other end of the line coming from the lower unit ( that's if it is still there).
