Hi all,
I have a 96 Four Winns 190 Horizon with the fuel injected 302 Ford engine. Has a lot of hours and a knock so I'm going to rebuild it. I have several Mustangs so I'm pretty familiar with this engine. My main question is,this has the Ford speed density fuel injection set up and it is not a roller cam block. Can I either bump the cam a little bit with this computer set up or switch to a roller cam block without messing up the computer. Looking to get maybe another 50 hp out of it. Figured cleaning up the heads, roller rockers, and a very mild cam would wake it up a little bit. Does anyone have any experience with this situation? Thank you very much in advance for any and all help!

Thank you,
Jim

Re: 96 four Winns with Ford 302 rebuild questions

I have the the same motor, only with a 2bbl (and of Volvo Penta/OMC set-up). I just went thru a cracked block (short block rebuild) and thought of replacing the flat tappets with a roller rocker set-up for an increase in usable rpms?! From what I come to understand you can replace the tappets with the roller rockers without even replacing the cam (per the local engine rebuilder that built my short block)? I didn't want to spend the funds as I still have an interior to replace and various little maintenance issue to address?! I also know the service manual (again, Volvo Penta/OMC) has that year of motor (Ford 5.0L with EFI) listed as one with roller rockers as well...not sure of the differences though?

Good Luck and keep us posted?!
