I have a 25hp Johnson that one of the cylinders is not firing on. I originally thought that a coil was bad but in talking with some reputable mechanics in the area was told that these coils rarely go bad. It was suggested that I take the coils off and clean all the connections as well as the ground wire on the power pack (if its still called that)because it sounded like a grounding problem. I did these two things and the motor ran for two days without missing - I thought I had solved the problem. On the third day it started doing it again only this time is was the other cylinder not firing and it was no longer intermittent. I rechecked my connections and did not find any issues. Any suggestions on what or how I should go about finding the problem. I suppose its possible that it is a damaged wire or the power pack itself. I would prefer to not just spend money randomly trying to discover what it is. Any ideas?
