96 Johnson 90hp lower unit leaking oil

We have 1996 Johnson 90hp and the lower unit is leaking gear oil from the prop shaft. We drained the lower unit and there is no evidence of water in the lower unit. So I was wondering if I could replace the front seal without taking the lower unit off the boat?<br />P.S. Could anyone tell me what to spay on the engine to keep corrosion down?<br />

Are you sure it is gear oil or is it exhaust residue?

I will check next time I am out there.It is a dark oily film
