96 Johnson v-6 200 runs GREAT wide open. At low idle sucks all the fuel out of the bulb. Could it be the VRO or a leak around the pump. If it is the VRO where and how much would it cost to get one. It there a kit for these?

Hi chill 2971

If it sucks all the fuel from the primer bulb, you have some restriction, either not letting air into tank, or blocking filter in tank. The fuel pump tries to pump, and sets vacuum in fuel hose and primer bulb. Try to remove fuel cap - do not have to much fuel in tank. If it is a build-in tank, check tankvent.

Chill.... Something seems to be left unsaid there. If you're saying that at idle, the engine runs out of fuel and stops (sucks the bulb dry), then I would think you have a fuel restriction. I'd suspect that your rig has a "Anti Siphon" valve located at the built in fuel tank, right where the rubber fuel hose attaches. It will be aluminum, about 2" long, and the inner components will consist of a Ball, Spring, and Seat.

At a high rpm, the engine will have the drawing power to keep that anti siphon valve open, supplying fuel to the VRO. At an idle, if that valve is sticking, it may not, and of course the engine runs out of fuel, loads up with oil, and smokes quite a bit.

If that valve exists, remove it, knock out the inner componets, then reinstall it as a straight through fitting.

It will run good at 2000+ RPMS. It does not smoke, it just runs out of fuel. I pump the bulb till it is firm, and it fires right up. It is when I am running at >2000 rpms it dies. Could that still be the "Anti Siphon Valve"? I have 2 tanks is there one on each tank?
