The Johnson motor I bought used did not come with the pin that adjusts the tilt (may be the wrong word) and I just have it mounted to the boat. I use it on a Wards sea king 12 foot aluminum V boat, do I need to adjust it or should that be fine for the boat? Its a 15hp and it pushes this small boat at a scary speed! Any help would be great. Thanks, Chris.

If you are happy with the performance, I would not worry. Motor cavitation plate should be level with the bottom of the boat hull. That pin is to set the motor at different trim angles.

Now, You may need that pin for the reverse lock to work. Does the motor tend to tilt up when going in reverse?

Um, I don't know. I rarely put it in reverse. I'm happy with the performance but it picks the nose of the boat up quite a bit, is that normal? Can barely see whats ahead of me! Thanks again.

First off put your gas tank in the bow of the boat. It may keep the bow down a little. The only time you'll need the pin is if you go into a "panic reverse".
