Hello all.
I have a 96 Johnson ocean runner 225, it sometimes (more times than not) has a hard time starting.
When it is running at lowest idel it will sometimes stall.
stalls a lot when I put it in gear.
I get a check engine light when running over 4500 - 5000 RPM
I thoght I may :confused:be getting alarm from VRO. I disconected the sensors from the VRO and still get consistant check engine light.

Under the mid to high acceleration it runs great. when running idel verry ragged.

I thohgt it may be the VRO needing to be rebuilt. Took it apart. (gas side only) looked fine.

I have not clue where to go..

It sounds like you have two issues. Check Engine is a fuel restriction. I would make sure the antisiphon valve in the fuel pickup on the tank is clean. Also make sure any fuel filters are clean as well.

The bad idle may be dirty carbs. You might clean and rebuild them. Then do a link and synch on the motor to make sure the ilde timing is correct.

Hey thanks for the reply.

I had done some research and had found that yes, I am looking at two issues.

There seems to be a lot of junk in my 1 year old tank that is clogging the filters. I know how to deal with that.

BUT... I have an issue that is shrugging the shoulders of anyone that hears it.

I have two batteries, they are hooked up to a battery switch. (1, 2, both, off)

If on batt 1 or 2, I can NOT start the engine from the KEY switch (It will turn over just not start). But I CAN start it if I use a screw driver to jump the connection on the solenoid at the engine (as long as I leave the key in the on position).

(I have replaced the key switch and tried leaving the ground off)

Now, Here is the twisted part. If I have the switch on Both. It will start from the key....

These results are consistent and can be produced at an time.

Any clue anyone?
