I have a '96 Mariner 90 hp, that does not seem to be charging the battery. I had the stator replaced a month ago (did not have any spark), and my tach quit working shortly after. If this is a voltage regulator problem, how do I check it?
Thanks,

wingarn

You already have. The tach quit working and the battery isn't being charged. Absent any broken wires or loose connections, I would change the rectifier.

roscoe,

I have no loose/broken wires to the rectifier. From my electronics days I know the rectifier converts ac to a stable dc voltage, is this what happens in this application. Is the stator what supplies the voltage that needs to be regulated? Is there a voltage regulator (other than the rectifier) for this engine. I do not see one on the parts breakdown (on mercurypartsexpress.com), but I see there is a kit available.
Just want to be sure I'm replacing the proper part.
Thanks for your info
