96 Mercruiser 3.0 lx Hello and thank you.

Hello all, I want to thank you all very much. I bought a 96 maxum 2000sl with a Mercruiser 3.0 lx alpha one gen 2 about 3 months ago. It is my first boat. It ran great the first 4 outings then POOF it all of a sudden started backfiring out the carb after half throttle. After hours and hours on this forum I changed the plugs, wires, cap and rotor, anti siphon valve, water fuel separator filter on pump, and cleaned the screen at carb inlet. Took it out and it still did the same thing. Then I remembered reading someone had a bad tachometer and it caused the same symptoms. I un plugged the tach and she purrs like a kitten. I guess a new tacho is on the Christmas list then....
