96 mercury 90 hp carb adjusting

I recently bought a 96, 90 hp mercury that had been sitting up for about 2 years. nothing was done to the engine when it was parked so it gummed up the carbs. I've cleaned everything and all looks well, but I'm have trouble adjusting the fuel mix. It runs now but dosent want to idle and smokes real bad on start up. I took it out to the lake and had trouble getting it to start. Finally got the thing to start but didnt want to idle. Got her to run and idle and did good but shut it down for about 30 min. and the problem started again. Any help? T Thanks

You will probably want to buy a manual. The adjustments vary. Generally you would leave them at the factory settings when cleaning, but if you get it out of sych, you may have them reset. I would love to have a set of those multi carb vacuum guages to set each carb at the correct setting. You have to do all the time to do it be ear.......
