96 waveraider, left in water over night. came back 1/2 full of water..help please q&a

so, i went camping and left my 96 waveraider in the water over night after riding a little in the day.. i did 360s and also did turn it on its side and my right side engine hull latch doesnt always work perfect (does not always lock tight)....

could i have filled it 1/2 from just a roll and 360s with the engine hull not completely latched down??

anyways....the jet ski started up fine in the morning it was slow and wobbly and that's why i checked the engine and i noticed all that extra water weight in there....i decided to cut camping short and i used a plastic water bottle and got the water down pretty low relatively speaking....then i had my gf drive it back to the docks and it did fine (i would have drove it but had my kayak and trolling motor out there so i took that in)....the only thing i noticed was obviously the speed was slow and also the speedometer fluctuated really weird like 6-20-0-10 kinda readings....

so i ran it about 20-30 seconds on land after loading up....dry no water got water out of prop area and thats all so far..im gunna re seal the drain plugs cuz a couple days before my brother unscrewed one and then put it back in immediately-maybe thats what was causing the leak? any recommendations on replacing..i ordered a drain plug assembly to put it on that side...

do you guys think i need to pull spark plugs and do anything additional bc of the water in there??...the hull is now dry...it did run and made it home...just nervous because i only had it out like 3xs since i got it.....and have limited cash funds on repairing it..

Water can certainly damage electronics. I don't know how your Waverider speedo is driven so I can't comment on that.

The hatch was built watertight and it needs to be watertight. A roll with an open hatch can take on a lot of water very very quickly. I believe absolutely you could fill a hull that way between a roll and aggressive riding. I'm guessing your legs were shaky and that's why you didn't feel the odd handling when coming home?

There's just too many variables for any boat to ask "what's leaking". Your only option is to make sure the boat is completely dry inside, make sure the plug(s) are in, and put it in the water. Check for water intrusion with a bright flash light.

You can pull the plugs and turn the motor over to inject any injested water. However, if the ski is running like it should, probably don't have to worry about that. I would make sure it is well oiled or fogged prior to letting it sit for a long period just to make sure the bearings and crank don't rust. Or run it like you normally would to get plenty of oil distributed throughout.....
