96 Yamaha It'll turn over all day long but won't start. I fished several days consecutively with no problems, then I didn't get to go for 3 or 4 days. Now it'll turn over but won't crank. I replaced the plugs. Getting fire to the plugs. Any suggestions?

is the choke closing? is the fuel line hooked up? some of the 150 engines had a fuel connector at the engine that would clog. how did you test for spark?
good luck and keep posting

the manual choke is not out. how would i check to see if the choke were closing? the fuel line is hooked up. i haven't checked to see if the connector might be clogged but i will. thanks for the tip. i pulled a plug and reconnected the wire then had someone turn the key with the plug about a 1/4" from the block. thanks for the suggestions. keep 'em coming.

sometimes the pin on the engine side of the connector wont push the ball for the tank side connector so no or very little fuel flows. try to use the manual choke. you can watch all the choke links move if you wish.
good luck and keep posting

Re: 96 Yamaha turns over but won't start

i've tried that. when i bought the boat the man told me it was easier to start if i used the manual choke. so i have. i've already had to change the plugs about a month and half ago because it fouled them from flooding. i thought this might have been the same situation is the reason i've already changed the plugs. thanks for your help and i appreciate all of your suggestions. keep 'em coming.
thanks

Pull the cowling and see if the chokes close all of the way when activated. If not adjust the solinoid until they do. Be sure the manual choke is not hanging and the choke butterflies are opening all of the way when manually choking and releasing. Since it is the same choke, adjustment should be the only reason it would work better one way than the other.

I ended up carrying the boat to a dealer. He determined that the choke butterflies were hanging on the gasket for the air filter. Thanks for everyone's help.
