I have narrowed it down to the tilt motor, I get 12v to the connector...no motor run. Question is, now that I have the three bolts out on each side of the transom bracket, the pin out of the tilt ram and the whole assembly is loose and wobbling in between the transom brackets...why won't it tilt out and back so I can get to that &*$#@ phillips head screw towards the back of the tilt motor? Do I need to take out the bolts on one side and spread the transom brackets to accomplish this?
1997 Johnson 115spl
Thank you in advance,

Dave

P.S. Ive been away for a while.....it's nice to be back. d:)

Re: '97 115SPL T&T

Anyone?
Is there a trick I'm not aware of?
Will the motor fall if I take out the bolts on one side?
I look forward to any and all replies.

Thanks,
Dave

Support the motor (hang) and loosen one bracket and the tilt tube nut.

Can't say if I've ever done a 97 115 but on almost all the motors I'v done you could pivot the tilt unit backwards far enough to get to that back bolt. Is the motor tilted all the way up and sitting on the locks? What's the tilt unit hitting on.

Is it hitting on the ram? Is the ram retracted some?

The motor is tilted all the way up, the tilt ram is retracted. It's hitting something towards the back side of the tilt motor. Kinda like where the back screw flange is. I'll keep at it and loosen the bracket if I have to. It moves about an inch, maybe. I have the factory manual...unfortunately it does't cover the T&T too deeply.

Try lifting straight up and then out. It may be hanging on the manual relief screw too....
