Looking g for some help here.. my 1997 Evinrude ocean pro is in great condition and runs like a top. Until yesterday, we were running about 3,500 rpm all good, when suddenly the engine dropped to idle. Turned it off and back on , same issue , idled 5 miles back to the slip no stalling or anything it just kept on putting at about 1,100 rpm . We open the engine lid and find a small pin sitting there. It's about 2 inches long with a slight change in daimeter halfway through. I'm hoping someone can tell me what this pin is and if it is related to the idle only issue. Thanks a bunch

Couldn’t say for sure - checked your parts diagram and can’t find anything that looks quite like that. but sounds like something in the linkage broke or came loose.

With the engine off put the control box at WOT and go back to the engine and see where the carb linkage is. Check the whole assembly and find out where it’s not connected

The O ring on top suggest that it is indeed part of your linkage. The O ring probably held a roller in place. The cam moves the roller which opens the carb butterfly valves. With the valves not opening you are only running on your idle circuit. Cant say that it is the carb cam roller for certain but it certainly appears to be. With the engine not running put it in gear and full throttle ,watch the carburetor for some action.
