97 bayliner trophy { good or bad }

I am looking at a 1997 bayliner trophy with a 115 merc offshore, is it really that bad of a boat is it an underpowered boat it is a 20 footer

if it was a 90 i would say yes. im sure the 115mer put out more than the stock base 120 force of that year. i have an 1802 w/a with a 120johnson and thats a little heavy by 45lbs. main thing if it gets you on plain with 2to3 people it should be fine. you wont win any races, but then you can get a bowrider for that. you should still get a good cruise speed. if the price is rite do it. they ride nice and look good on the water. i would check the transom molding to make sure it is in tact, and look inside the battery boxes each side where the inner transom is to make sure there is no leaks, you will see where the upper and lower join. hope that helps.

For what it's worth, I have a '92 2002 Trophy and I love it. I just remotored it, changing from a Force 150 to a Mercury 150 Saltwater EFI. If anything, I think you may find the motor on the one you're looking at is a little weak, particularly if you're going off shore with it.

check out the Bayliner Owners Club site. They will give you lots of info on that boat as well as things to look for.<br />I have a 95 Trophy 2002 and am very happy with it.
