I just towed home my new(old) bass boat. Well maintained Stratos with a Fast Strike 150. I tilted the motor up,to remove the transom saver and it just kept going up! Even with my hand off the switch (at motor). Tilted up as high as it would go, but the tilt motor kept running! I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop. Now,battery reconnected ,I have nothing at any of my 3 switches. Bear in mind I have now had this boat for 1 hour and I am depressed. We had just tilted the motor with all 3 switches at the prev. owners house. Suggestions? It seems there must be a fuse somewhere? I traced the wires from the motor switch to a double relay setup(I assume up/down). Manual ordered but dont have it yet. Thanks for any feedback.

step 1 did u check the fuse ..possibly blown by now ...

most have one feeding the T&T circuit. could have been a stuck switch or stuck relay . fuse is generally on a red wire off the selenoid B+ side from the battery cable

if you have a fat connector on the harness open it and connect the battery

if T&T comes on by itself probably a stuck relay ( if not.... Good ) if yes.... find the relays and try a firm tap ...see if it releases the the T&T probable bad relay contacts .

if T&T only comes on ONLY with the harness reconnected... problem up front possible bad switch in the control box (shifter) ...

T&T circuitry not very complicated don't dispair but....electrical skills are in order here

Look near the starter for a fuse. A lot of them will have a double fuse holder with a spare fuse on the unused side.

Before replacing the fuse, "exercise" all the switches to assure they spring back to the center position. You might blow them out, since water will complete the up circuit, if it gets into a thumb-type toggle switch.

Thanks for the reply! I will work thru those today. I am over the buyer remorse and now determined to find the issue. I suspect one of the switches at the handle or bow.The fuse appears to be ok,but I will swap in a spare

I did find that fuse holder with the spare on it. Fuse appears ok. I got a great deal on this boat, but it had been sitting for a few months. I figured on having to do some needed maintenance......just not so soon!!!

Find the plug for the trim tilt.----Green and a blue wire.------Apply 12 volt directly to to those terminals.----+ to one wire and - to other.-----See if motor works.

Agreed.----he said that he had to disconnect.---He also clearly stated that after reconnect nothing worked.----So some simple testing needs to be done !!

Hey guys, first off thanks for the advice. Went at it with a friend who is an excellent 'old school' mechanic. After much testing... Fuse is good, switches at all 3 stations are ok. Good power and grounds.
One relay showed scorched on 87A. If we put the other relay in 'up' side and a jumper wire on the 'down' side the tilt motor activates. Put the other relay in ... nothing. Definitely have 1 bad relay. I will put 2 new ones in tomorrow and see where that leads. Hopefully ,the trim motor is good.

great news. thanks for feedback. relay contacs do oxidize and stick ON
keep an eye on everything in case excessive current was carried on the T&T motor and damaged the relay contact surfaces.

Everything will probably be fine with new relays

Popped in the new relay and ..Voila!! T&T is back. A$3 fix. Warmed up to 49 this afternoon ,so out on the lake. Motor ran great. My to do list is getting smaller. The boat( 98 Stratos 282) had not been in the water for 8 months. I was expecting some maint. would be needed, but so far just small stuff. Thanks again for the advice

as suggested do a complete OEM water pump at some point soon. good practice and don't forget these motors were computer designed ie. very thoughtfully laid out. removing the side lower cowlings makes access a breeze for anything you need to reach.
